MAZE Art Gstaad: Art Fair

19 - 22 February 2026
Overview

The HELENE BAILLY MARCILHAC Gallery is delighted to participate, for the second consecutive year, in the third edition of MAZE Art Gstaad.

The event will take place from February 19 to 22, 2026, at the Festival Zelt, in the heart of the prestigious ski resort of Gstaad.

This intimate winter fair brings together a refined selection of leading international galleries and creators, covering modern and contemporary art, historical masterpieces, collectible design, and fine jewelry. It offers a unique setting for privileged and inspiring encounters between exhibitors, collectors, and visitors.

For this edition, the gallery is presenting a selection of 20th-century works, curated with a focus on surrealist resonances. These works are displayed as a free and cross-disciplinary narrative, promoting dialogue between the works rather than their affiliation with a specific movement.

Paintings, works on paper, sculptures, and ceramics, covering different periods and techniques, come together in an open presentation. Artists such as Francis Picabia, Max Ernst, Victor Brauner, René Magritte, Óscar Domínguez, and Jean-Paul Riopelle engage in dialogue with Pablo Picasso, Jean Dubuffet, Henri Matisse, Fernand Léger, and Henri Laurens.

The collection emphasizes the coherence of correspondences and the subtlety of connections rather than the effect of demonstration.

Among the works on display, Max Ernst's Simplicity occupies a central place. Created in 1960, this painting reflects a period in the artist's career marked by great formal freedom and the use of scraping techniques. The work condenses several essential themes of his work, notably the role of chance, the relationship to matter, and the recurring presence of the bird, an intimate figure in his imagination. Through its density and restraint, Simplicity stands out as a true anchor point of the presentation.
